Friday, April 09, 2010 – All Activities at Galway Downs!

  • Welcome to Galway Downs, Southern California Equestrian Center.
  • 4:00 p.m. Course Walk (no measuring).
  • 7:00 p.m. Calcutta Dinner at Galway. This is an opportunity to bid on the team you think is going to win. Prize is half the pot for that race.

Saturday, April 10, 2010 – All Activities at Galway Downs!

  • 6:30 - 9:45 a.m. Welcome to Galway Downs, Southern California Equestrian Center. Look for a parking director. We will need to be really organized so we can all fit. Keep in mind, the parking director is a volunteer!
  • 6:30 - 9:45 a.m. Course open for walking (no measuring). To maximize your fun and safety all courses should be walked before ridden.
  • 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Continental Breakfast served at the Registration Barn.
  • Pick UP BIBS: Bibs can’t be issued without payment of fees.
  • $50 late entry fee for riders not prepaid by Friday evening.
  • Entries $40 per class or the Unlimited Classes flat fee price of $150 at the registration desk plus grounds fee. Prepaid riders can add classes without incurring the $50 late entry fee.

10:00 a.m. 5-4-3-2-1 START!!!!!!!

  • The order of classes is listed below. Classes will be announced by loud speaker. Check in with the ring steward at warm up for the order of go for your event.   
    1. FIELD HUNTER TRIALS: A simulated hunt where riders will follow a field master over a course replicating a field hunting experience. Horses to be judged on their performance and attitude while “hunting”. Selected horse/riders may be asked to perform individual tests, such as dismounting, remounting, open or closing of a gate, to determine Champion and Reserve Champion. Best turnout will also be awarded. Riders may select to ride in first field which will include jumping or second field which does not jump. Separate awards for first field, second field, and turn out.
    2. POINT-TO-POINT: Teams to ride a 2 – 3 mile course. Obstacles range in height from 3’0” to 3’3”. Both riders must jump all obstacles.  Team members must finish the course within 10 seconds of each other or be penalized 30 seconds. Fastest time wins.
    3. HILLTOPPER PACE: OPTIMUM TIME: Teams ride a 1.5 – 2 mile course. No jumping of obstacles, but course is a marked trail including mandatory “gates”. Failure to pass through a gate will result in disqualification. Winning team will be closest to optimum time, either over or under, including penalties. Pace is 300 meters per minute.
    4. AUGIE HANDLEY MEMORIAL NOVICE HUNTER PACE: Same rules as for the Hunter Pace except only one rider on each team is required to jump each obstacle. Both may jump. Pace is 350 meters per minute.  Obstacles range to 2’6”.
    5. HUNTER PACE: Teams ride a 1.5 - 2 mile course. Both riders must jump each obstacle. Placing decided by penalties and time closest to optimum time, either over or under. Pace is 375 meters per minute.  Obstacles range to 3’0”.
    6. CROSS COUNTRY: Individual entrants, not teams. Seven to ten obstacles over a set course. Judged on optimum time and refusals.  Optimum time set at 475 meters per minute. Obstacles to 3’3”.
    7. SHORT PACE: Teams (not to exceed 3 members) or individuals ride 1.5 - 2 mile course. There are no coops. Placing decided by time closest to optimum time, either over or under. Pace is 375 meters per minute. Obstacles range from 2’0” to 2’6”.
    8. PONY RACE: A race over the fair hunting country limited to riders under 18 years of age. A minimum of three (3) entries required for the race to go.
    9. WHIP RELAY: Relay teams of three (3) riders over a course of approximately 1 mile. Children’s entries are run separately from adult entries. Event may be run in “heats” of three teams each if sufficient entries are received.
    10. JACKPOT JUMPERS: Individual entrants, not teams. Timed event over stadium jumps. Fences will have varying point value based on difficulty and size. Rider jumps fences in any order they choose. No fence may be jumped twice in a row, but may be jumped multiple times. Rider to have 1.5 minutes to accumulate as many points as possible, highest total wins. No points awarded for a lowered rail, and lowered obstacle then is off course. Rider may only enter one division.

      Division A:  Fences not to exceed 2”6”.

      Division B:  Fences not to exceed 3”3”.

    11. HOUND RACE: Bet on your favorite hound as they chase a drag around a short course. Betting will be “silent auction” style. Betting sheets will be located at the registration desk on the day of the meet.

  • Registration desk:  Please pay any outstanding fees and charges incurred during the day at this time.

4:00 p.m. (approx.) AWARDS HAPPY HOUR

  • Let your horses relax at the trailer. Come on over to the barn and enjoy an afternoon of high stakes winners! Race meet riders/teams will be announced and ribbons given. Collect your winnings!

Sunday, April 11, 2010 Closing Meet @ Silver Saddle

 9:00 a.m.   SANTA FE HUNT CLOSING MEET

  • There will be three fields riding to hounds. Members of other MFHA recognized/registered hunts are cordially invited to wear awarded colors.
  • The hunt will be followed by the traditional Hunt Breakfast to close out the weekend. No capping fee or Hunt Breakfast fee will be collected from riders who competed in Saturday’s events. Capping fee for non-competing riders who are not SFH members is $100.00, and there is a Hunt Breakfast fee of $25.00 for non-riders.
